WELCOME BACK

Apologies for the lack of ‘action’ on FHJ recently – time wasn’t on my side.

But I’d like to say welcome back with, well, the promo of ‘Welcome Back’ funnily enough.

Released in the Summer of 2004 this was a single track promo CD sent to hip and cool radio stations for a wee spin before the release of fourth album ‘Weightlifting’. The black sheep of the album, ‘Welcome Back’ sits a bit out of place with the other album tracks, but it’s still a belter.

As you can see, there’s not much to it, just the plain old CD and a photocopied insert.

It’s rare!

…of world domination? Mmmm, perhaps not.

One of my earlier posts will give you all the info you need on the Westwood One Radio Networks.

This is another rare CD which includes the tracks ‘Iceberg’ and ‘Remember Phil’. The latter, as you well know, is in fact ‘Twisted And Bent’ – but when this acoustic session was recorded the song had no official title. It is introduced by Frank as a ‘world exclusive’ and is rather good.

Both tracks eventually appeared on the 7-inch vinyl bootleg which accompanied some copies of the Autopsy fanzine. More on both of theseĀ here and here.

Here’s an early article from Rolling Stone magazine.

At the end of the article you’ll read Mr Livingston extolling the virtues of the English language and his allegiance to the word Autopsy.

This article was of course, the inspiration behind Sarah Frederiksen’s fanzine of the same name, which you can read about here.

This Japanese release of second album ‘I’ve Seen Everything’ will be a rare sight to most as not too many of them were pressed.

The packaging is almost identical to the standard US and European releases apart from the obvious record label details. It also comes with a fold-out Japanese lyric sheet.

Very nice it is too.

A SORT OF HOMECOMING

Homecoming Scotland 2009 was a series of events designed to attract people of Scottish ancestry to visit Scotland.

The Homecoming started on 25 January 2009 (Robert Burns night) and ran until 30 November 2009 (St Andrews Day). Throughout this period there was a long list of events, including several well-established attractions like Celtic Connections, Glasgow International Comedy Festival, Royal Highland Show, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.

Another Homecoming celebration though, was Kilmarnock’s Tartan Tidings – a low-key affair combining musical entertainment from local ‘heroes’ culminating in some Z-list celebrity switching on the town’s Christmas Lights.

The 2009 event had an array of talent including the Donnie Munro Band, Andrew Merry(?), A Gospel Choir, Peatbog Faeries and the Trashcan Sinatras.

Now you’re probably wondering why the Trashcans were mingling with the Z-listers, but if you know your history – which I’m sure you do – then you’ll know that Kimarnock was the band’s home for several years, so it seemed appropriate for the organisers to ask some real heroes to return for the event.
