Here’s the very rare 12″ promo for debut single, ‘Obscurity Knocks’. A very simple piece with a big letter A on one side of the white labels – good effort Go! Discs.
The plain black sleeve comes complete with a promo label. And that’s about it really.
Except to say that the A side is inscribed with the legend, ‘Youthenasia’

Here’s a cassette version of debut album, ‘Cake’, all the way from Bangkok.
There’s not much to say about it though. The tape and the inner J-card is much different from the regular release as you would expect. I can’t imagine it would have been released in any great quantities in Thailand.
Nice all the same.

Here’s the 7″ vinyl of debut single ‘Obscurity Knocks’ – all the way from the outback.
Identical front and back cover to the regular UK release with the exception of the London Records logo, whilst the centre labels are altogether, entirely different.

From the outside it looks like the regular 7-inch release doesn’t it?
But you’d be wrong.
Slide out the vinyl and you discover that the B-side label is also the A-side label – I believe the man from the pressing plant got his P45 after this discovery.
I’m not sure if the A-side does in fact play ‘Only Tongue Can Tell’ – the old Dansette disnae work anymore – but I’m sure it does.
Anyhoo, a nice wee rarity – tiddely-om-pom-pom!

2-track US cassette of debut single ‘Obscurity Knocks’, with ‘Who’s He?’ on side two.
Rarer than a big woolly mammoth.

Everyone loves Cake, but I think I may have overdone it.
It wasn’t until I bought the new super-duper, hi-res, super high material version that I realised I have six copies of the debut album. Overkill maybe, but you can never have enough Cake right?
Included here are the US, Canadian, UK releases and three from Japan – two of which include six extra tracks.
Now, when is that new re-release coming out again?

From the outside it looks like the regular 7-inch release of debut single ‘Obscurity Knocks’.
But when you slide the vinyl out – voilà – no labels!
All very strange.

Here’s the 4-track 12-inch version of debut single ‘Obscurity Knocks’ – a title which perhaps became a self-fulfilling prophecy for TCS.
The inner ring of the A-side is inscribed with the legend ‘Youthenasia’, and the title track is backed with ‘The Best Man’s Fall’, ‘Drunken Chorus’ and ‘Who’s He?’.
