Here’s the Japanese promo edition of fifth album, ‘In The Music’.
It’s very rare and very nice.

Recorded live over 2 intimate acoustic shows on Monday 23 and Wednesday 25 November 2009 in the conservatory of Glasgow’s Brel Bar, Brel features acoustic performances of nearly every song from the Trashcan Sinatras’ most recent studio album, ‘In The Music’.
It includes 17 tracks in total with a further eight songs from the shows available on the US version of In The Music - but you’ve already got that one haven’t you?
It’s a great wee CD and is recorded like all live albums should be – without the annoying two second gap between each song. The only downside in my opinion is the lack of sleevenotes and pictures, similar to the Trashcans’ other live release, ‘Fez’.
Bloody recession!

Featuring 17 tracks, this CD of radio and other session performances was recorded during the 2009 ‘In The Music’ world tour.
The CD comes in a simple cardboard sleeve and includes at least one song from each of the band’s 5 studio albums, with the tracks split between acoustic and full band.
It also includes one unreleased song called ‘Stairs of New York’ - kind of a funny song about the band’s adventures in New York. The song was taken from the recent session they recorded for Daytrotter.

Finally – after some typical Trashcan teething troubles – the fifth studio album ‘In The Music’ was released at the end of April 2010 in North America and Canada through the band’s UK record label Lo-Five Records, with digital distribution available through Ingrooves (it should be available at every digital download site you can think of) and physical distribution via Fontana (part of Universal Music Group).
ITM, in my opinion, is their best to date and on the US release there’s the added bonus of eight tracks. These were recorded on November 23 and 25, 2009 at Brel in Glasgow. ‘Send For Henny’ featuring Eddi Reader is worth the shipping cost alone. These songs should also feature in a proposed release later in 2010 entitled ‘Brel’ – a kind of brother or sister (you choose) to ‘Fez’.
The artwork and packaging – designed by the mighty Emlyn Firth – is magic (negative type et al) and comes in a digipak sleeve with a little cutout pocket to hold the lyric booklet – nice!
Anyhoo, here it is – enjoy y’all…

People. There’s millions of us. We go about our business everyday, sometimes happily, sometimes not but we’re mostly all, oblivious to others around us.
But one sunny autumn Sunday afternoon, John Douglas captured a few minutes of joy on his trusted old Super8, that would eventually become the official video for ‘People’, the second single from the Trashcan Sinatras album ‘In The Music’.
It’s filmed in Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo, Nagoya and Buchanan Street, Glasgow, where by chance two girls were giving free hugs to the punters of Glasgow. John happened to be in the vicinity and captured it for us all to see.
The hug girls, Olivia and Katherine, were eventually tracked down sometime after the video was made and were guests of honour at the two Brel acoustic gigs in November of 2009.
Great story. Great tune .

Here’s Olivia and Katherine (although I’m not sure who’s who)

- “…I is a lover, you is a tiger…we could have such a good time…”
Now there’s a chat up line for you.
The new Trashcans e.p. ‘Town Foxes’ is a collaboration with long-time friends and touring partners in Japan, Sunny Day Service.
They joined forces recently for this 2 track Japanese only e.p. on Rose Records. The A-side is the Trashcans recorded demo verison of the song whilst the B-side is a Japanese version “Yume iro no machide”, sung by Keiichi Sokabe over the TCS backing track.
Limited to 500 copies it was made available at the recent Japanese shows on 1-4 March 2010.
There are no credits on the sleeve, but the photography looks like the work of Mr John Douglas.

Released on Monday 9 November, here’s the promo CD of ‘People’ – the second single from 5th album ‘In The Music’.
When ITM was released, ‘People’ appeared to be much maligned and wasn’t the most popular among you Trashcan fans (if you read the official forum you’ll know where I’m coming from) – but I think it’s a belter.
If you haven’t heard it and your mibbee doon in the dumps, then you could do worse than getting yourself over to YouTube and watchin’ the video, shot by none other than Mr John Douglas himself.
It’ll put a smile on yer face.

Why so serious…?

Here’s a promo of ‘In The Music’ issued to various press and radio stations by Manilla PR, who have a host of artists on their roster – most of which I’ve never heard of.
This promo doesn’t have a cover or any promo labels - just the plain old CD I’m afraid.

Featuring 15 acoustic tracks, this CD of radio session performances was recorded during the 2004-2005 ‘Weightlifting’ world tours.
The CD comes in a simple cardboard sleeve and includes at least one song from each of the band’s 5 studio albums, including two tracks from their recent long player ‘In The Music’.
It originally included two more songs from ‘Cake’, but these were omitted from the final cut. Booooo!

Limited to 2,000 copies, the deluxe edition of ‘In The Music’ is quite stunning.
The packaging is different from the regular release – it comes in a hand stamped paper bag (Led Zeppelin’s ‘In Through The Out Door’ springs to mind.)
A card collector’s box houses the CD and includes a 52 page numbered booklet of photos, lyrics and the names of over 900 loyal fans who have given their support to the band over the years.
As an extra bonus, 250 lucky souls had their copy autographed by the band.
The booklet includes notes from the band explaining how the album developed. Andy Chase explains how he came to produce the album and Emlyn Firth gives a detailed account of the background to the design of the packaging – which adds a real personal touch to the album.
Two extra tracks – ‘I Can’t Stand Tomorrow’ and ‘I Just Don’t Know How’ – are also included, in what has to be the band’s best long player to date.
Get In(to) The Music – you’ll like it.

We’d like to thank you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you – oh, and not forgetting you!
