‘Select’ was a UK music magazine of the 1990s which was particularly known for covering Britpop. The magazine launched in October 1990 and folded a decade later in 2000, mirroring the rise and decline of the Britpop scene with which it became synonymous.

Here’s a cassette given away free with the May 1996 issue, which includes a track from the Trashcans – the mislabeled ‘Pop Palace’.

Note: All bands – with the exception of the Trashcans – are printed on the front cover.

Typical eh?

A not so favourable review from Johnny Dee of the NME, for single ‘Hayfever’.

Said reviewer – who now writes for the Guardian newspaper and Q Magazine – gave Cornershop the ‘Single of the Week’ award in the same issue.

Some people just have no taste.

…was released in 1996 by Eddi Reader.

This Japanese import included the bonus track ‘Sex Lives’ which was written by Frank Reader and Paul Livingston, although it doesn’t appear to be credited on the sleeve notes.

An acoustic track, it was also available on her single ‘Town Without Pity’ (part 2, NEG90CDX/0630151222)
