“My arse…” I hear you say.

Judging by the tracklisting you’d be right. I have no idea where this CD came from and neither it seems does my old friend Google.

All I can tell you is that the Trashcans’ ‘Only Tongue Can Tell’ is the only track, in my opinion, to achieve pass marks, although Paul Weller’s ‘Sunflower’ would probably make it onto the old iPod.

Apart from that, it’s a pretty poor compilation.

Fine tunes? My arse indeed.

People. There’s millions of us. We go about our business everyday, sometimes happily, sometimes not but we’re mostly all, oblivious to others around us.

But one sunny autumn Sunday afternoon, John Douglas captured a few minutes of joy on his trusted old Super8, that would eventually become the official video for ‘People’, the second single from the Trashcan Sinatras album ‘In The Music’.

It’s filmed in Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo, Nagoya and Buchanan Street, Glasgow, where by chance two girls were giving free hugs to the punters of Glasgow. John happened to be in the vicinity and captured it for us all to see.

The hug girls, Olivia and Katherine, were eventually tracked down sometime after the video was made and were guests of honour at the two Brel acoustic gigs in November of 2009.

Great story. Great tune .

Here’s Olivia and Katherine (although I’m not sure who’s who)

Here’s the 7″ vinyl of debut single ‘Obscurity Knocks’ – all the way from the outback.

Identical front and back cover to the regular UK release with the exception of the London Records logo, whilst the centre labels are altogether, entirely different.

I’m not entirely sure what this promo poster for second album ‘I’ve Seen Everything’ was used for. It’s 12″ x 12″ and printed both sides onto thick card and if you look closely you’ll see the London Go! Discs logo in the bottom right corner.

My guess is it was available from the merchandise stall at some US gigs or sent to record stores for a window display – maybe someone can enlighten me.

Deadline was a British comic magazine published between 1988 and 1995. Much of the its non-strip content centred on alternative and indie music.

It was most famous for being the original home of the popular strip Tank Girl, co-created by Jamie Hewlett, an English comic book artist and designer, who more recently is known for his work with virtual band Gorillaz – but you knew that already didn’t you.

Every so often Deadline would give away a free tape to promote the current crop of indie artists doing the rounds. This one includes ‘One At A Time’ by the Trashcans alongside tracks from the Ramones, Inspiral Carpets, Soft Parade, Frank & Walters and The Stairs.
