…and maybe the band will reply.
In the days before the internet, band forums and the like, the only means of communication for a band and its followers would have been perhaps, a letter. Therefore early releases like ‘Obscurity Knocks’ invited you, me and the world to write to them through their ‘I Hate Music’ address in Kilmarnock.
Now I never wrote to the band myself. Why? I’m not really sure, but anyhow, I’m sure lots of you did and you may have been lucky enough to receive a reply on their rather nice Shabby Road headed paper – as long as you sent an SAE that is – but even that wouldn’t guarantee a response.
These letters would let us all know what the band were up to and if you get yourself a copy of Finn Hartley’s book ‘Who’s He?’, you’ll see that Mr Douglas was up to more than just making music.
The ‘I Hate Music’ address line was replaced around the time of ‘A Happy Pocket’ with ‘The Receivers’ – not that that made much of a difference in response time.
So here’s one of those letters, and a big thank you to John Hartley for sending me a copy.

…Trashcan Sinatras in Modern Rock scandal.
I don’t think I could ever class the Trashcans in the modern rock category. Class? Definitely. Modern Rock? Nah.
I’m not sure where to put them, and if their Facebook and MySpace profiles are anything to go by, neither do they.
So how they ended up on this FMQB promo I’m not entirely sure – and what dodgy company they keep too. In amongst ‘Bloodrush’ we have tracks from Butthole Surfers, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin and eh, The Chowderheads.
FMQB stands for Friday Morning Quarterback and is a trade magazine which covers Music and Radio industries in the United States. Based in Cherry Hill, New Jersey it began in 1968 and covers programming, management, music, promotion, marketing, imaging, and airplay for Rock, Modern Rock (Alternative) and Adult Contemporary formats in its 40+ glossy pages.
Rock on guys!

…when this arrived in the post this morning.
A 20-track promo CD with a variety of top bands including The La’s, Pixies, The House Of Love, De La Soul and our very own Trashcan Sinatras – showcased here with ‘The Best Man’s Fall’.
The Edge is one of the most powerful and influential rock radio stations. Based in Toronto, Canada, 102.1 FM it is the third most listened-to new rock station and at one point hooked up with HMV to release sampler CDs of the best new music around.
Big thanks to Douglas in Canada for sending this over.

This 19-track compilation was released as a free CD by HMV in Canada and included artists such as New Order, Frank Black, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and The Trashcans – represented here with ‘Bloodrush’.
TCS appeared on two similar compilations early in 1991 with ‘The Best Man’s Fall’ and ‘Circling The Circumference’ – the latter released on cassette (remember those?)
