‘Chewing A Brick’ is a 39-track double CD of live tracks.

An un-official release, it consists of two main shows from Queens’ College, Cambridge UK on March 3 1993, and from Club Quattro in Tokyo Japan on September 22 1996. There are three additional songs from Club Quattro from September 21st of the same year.

Both recordings are excellent quality, coming from soundboard tape and DAT.

You’ll notice that the spine of the CD includes the final piece of the anchor image which accompanied the ‘I’ve Seen Everything’ releases. The liner notes give a brief history of the band including a ‘TCS Family Tree’.

The CD’s are named ‘Over The Moon’ and ‘Under The Influence’ – taken from the song ‘Easy Read’.

Recorded at the Fez club in New York City over two nights in December 2004, ‘Fez’ is entirely acoustic. At the time of recording the band were touring North America. The majority of the tracks are recorded from the second night’s show and catches the band in top form. The CD was released in the USA to coincide with the band’s appearance at the 2005 South by Southwest music festival and upcoming US tour.

Below you will find the UK, US and Japanese pressings of this release. The song list remains the same across the three copies. The differences are in the packaging where the Japanese release includes a Japanese liner notes booklet with English lyrics. The stickers on the front of the Japanese release refer to the band’s appearance at the 2006 Fuji Festival.

Definitely one of my Desert Island Discs.

fez_08fez_01fez_05Note the differences in colour of the CD. The Japanese pressing in the middle is a much lighter print. The US release has slightly different type where it includes December 2004.

fez_09fez_04Here’s the booklet from the Japanese release – typical attention to detail.

Promotional poster for the three sold out Troubadour shows on October 8-9 2004. This was the band’s first concert in California in 11 years.

I’ve no idea who designed the poster, but I like it.

‘Midnight at the Troubadour’ was filmed during three sold-out shows in 2004 at the Troubadour in Hollywood, California. Quite an achievement for the Trashcans at the time, as many people thought the band were extinct.

The booklet that accompanies this DVD gives a brief synopsis of the band’s history and explains at length how the Troubadour concerts materialised – 11 years or so after their last gigs in California.

Welcome back indeed!
