One From The Vault

Westwood One is America’s No.1 Radio Network and in 1991 the Trashcans paid them a visit to record a live session.

The show – called The Vault – had 6 segments from different artists featuring a short intro and outro from the announcer and then a live song.

On this CD we have an excellent acoustic version of ‘Only Tongue Can Tell’ from their debut long player ‘Cake’. These CDs are extremely rare and hard to find radio shows with only a limited number made for radio stations that would play this type of music and stations that subscribed to the Westwood One radio network services.

Other artists on the show – which was broadcast in February 1997 – included Devo, Midnight Oil, Living Colour and eh, Culture Club.

Magic!

Taking The Piste!

Over the years the Trashcans have appeared on numerous compilations – some good, some not so – but this one from Greece is possibly the worst.

‘Escape’ appears to be an online lifestyle and culture magazine – a sort of what’s on in Greece type of thing. At one stage in it’s history, before going digital, it was accompanied by a free CD like the one below.

‘I’ve Seen Everything’ by the Trashcans is here amongst an amazing mix of artists including New Order, Dodgy, James Taylor Quartet and er, Incognito.

Whoever put this one together was obviously on some sort of medication as I cannae quite imagine myself listening to ISE whilst weaving my merry way down the French Alps.

Crazy!

Far Sighted?

Short sighted is more like it, if you ask me.

spinART Records – in the beginning – sounded like a decent business proposal for the Trashcans. A reputation for signing up-and-coming bands preceded them, with great claims to providing great support to their artists. Artists like The Sunshine Fix, The Dears, Apples In Stereo and of course the Trashcan Sinatras.

But sadly it was not to be and the label went tits up towards the end of 2007. This left most of the bands on their roster without a home, but more importantly, without much-needed finance, whilst Jeff Price (spinART’s founder) escaped relatively unscathed and went on to form another company – no doubt with all the band’s money.

Not the work of a far sighted visionary record label I’m sure you’ll agree. There’s more opinions on this story here and here.

Anyhow, back to the matter in hand. Here’s a promo DVD from spinART which includes the aforementioned artists and has the Trashcans performing ‘It’s A Miracle’ from their live session at KCRW – the DVD of which is available on the deluxe version of fourth album ‘Weightlifting’.

It’s magic.

The credits for the picture below should in fact read ‘…Morning Becomes Eclectic…’

My Kind Of People

Released on Monday 9 November, here’s the promo CD of ‘People’ – the second single from 5th album ‘In The Music’.

When ITM was released, ‘People’ appeared to be much maligned and wasn’t the most popular among you Trashcan fans (if you read the official forum you’ll know where I’m coming from) – but I think it’s a belter.

If you haven’t heard it and your mibbee doon in the dumps, then you could do worse than getting yourself over to YouTube and watchin’ the video, shot by none other than Mr John Douglas himself.

It’ll put a smile on yer face.
