Have van, will travel.

Which is exactly what the Trashcan’s did for their month long acoustic tour in March 2011.

The October 2010 acoustic tour covered parts of the western/southwestern USA, so this recent tour covered much of the rest of the US, including a number of cities the band had never played and cities not played since the 2004/5 Weightlifting tours, including a long overdue return to Toronto, Canada. The full list of dates and setlists can be found here.

The official poster – only 100 hand-numbered prints were made – was designed by the mighty Shane Locke.

Not too many bands would entertain the idea of playing in a fan’s house. But the Trashcan Sinatras did exactly that in June 2010 in Portland, Oregon.

The band liked it so much, they were at it again a few months later as part of their mini-acoustic-american tour. Taking in Portland again (same house), they ventured to Los Angeles and played, for the first time ever, Las Vegas – uh-huh!

These intimate gigs could have been hit or miss, but from what I’ve read they were very much a hit. The drink flowed as did the tears and music and I believe there was a marriage proposal flung in for good measure – I hope she said yes!

Here’s the posters – designed once again by the talented Mr Shane Locke – from all three shows including the official tour poster…

When the Trashcans announced the dates for their 2010 ‘In The Music’ tour one location – Portland, Oregon – didn’t appear on the list.

Superfan Mike Chandler and his friend Keith Monaghan have been following the Trashcans for years and were disappointed when this news was announced. So with that well known saying, “if the mountain will not come to Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the mountain”, spinning in his head, Mike hatched a plan which would see the band play his home town.

Mike asked the band if they would be willing to play at his house (yes, you read right – his house!) and after weeks of to-ing and fro-ing between himself, the band and their management, his idea came to fruition when they agreed to play this unique and intimate show. So with the ball well and truly rolling Mike put out an open invitation for 50 fans to join him for a quite different ‘house party’.

The band flew in from Scotland and Hollywood (but of course), for the show on Sunday 30 June. A quick tune-up and they were off and running, playing a bumper 3-hour set.

I could tell you a lot more, but you can read the rest here and here.

Anyway, back to the real point of this post.

One of the lucky 50 fans in attendance that night was regular Trashcan forum dweller and friend of FHJ, Shane Locke. A graphic designer by day, Shane offered his services to help advertise the show and produced this wonderful poster. A nice touch, in my opinion, was the inclusion of the names of all in attendance around the border.

Limited to a run of just 75, it’s a bit of a collectors item and Shane was kind enough to send over a copy. He’s told me there are still a few left, so why not drop him an email and add it to your collection.

Sofa, so good Shane!

Some posters, if not all, were signed by the band.

I’m not entirely sure what this promo poster for second album ‘I’ve Seen Everything’ was used for. It’s 12″ x 12″ and printed both sides onto thick card and if you look closely you’ll see the London Go! Discs logo in the bottom right corner.

My guess is it was available from the merchandise stall at some US gigs or sent to record stores for a window display – maybe someone can enlighten me.
