Here’s a recent article written in my local paper about the wee army of fans who’ve helped keep the Trashcan Sinatras going over the years.

‘Off The Freckord’ is a weekly feature, written by Craig McAllister, and is part of the Freckfest initiative who’s main aim is to revive Irvine’s flagging local music scene.
If you were a member of the Trashcan’s forum (remember that? – screw you Facebook), you’ll know him as the infamous Phil Spector. He also writes the very wonderful and brilliant Plain or Pan blog. There’s a link over there on the left, or you could always just click here.

David Roberts wasn’t happy with The Trashcans’ third album, ‘A Happy Pocket’ in this two-star review from Q Magazine. According to David, the band had moved away from their coy, jangly sound to cardboard, cartoon pop.
Well, really!

Not according to Paul Mardles from Sounds Magazine.
If his review of their performance at London’s ICA is anything to go by, he was far from happy. Maybe it was because he was missing the World Cup.
Here’s what he wrote back in July of 1990…

He may be on the front cover, but it’s not Brett Anderson’s ‘Trash’ we’re talking about – although Suede’s Trash is a damn catchy pop tune all the same.
No folks, we’re talking about a full page press advert for the Trashcans’ second album, ‘I’ve Seen Everything’ which appeared in the July edition of well-respected Japanese music magazine, Rockin’ On.
Rock on…

Unfortunately, I failed my Japanese exam at school so I can’t bring you the translation for this review of ‘I’ve Seen Everything’, which appeared in the same magazine – I’m sure it was decent though.

Taken from the 2010 tour. I’m not sure who designed this poster – Shane, perhaps? Also, the imagery puzzles me too. Is it a representation of the four principles in the band I wonder?
Thanks Ben!
