…when this arrived in the post this morning.

A 20-track promo CD with a variety of top bands including The La’s, Pixies, The House Of Love, De La Soul and our very own Trashcan Sinatras – showcased here with ‘The Best Man’s Fall’.

The Edge is one of the most powerful and influential rock radio stations. Based in Toronto, Canada, 102.1 FM it is the third most listened-to new rock station and at one point hooked up with HMV to release sampler CDs of the best new music around.

Big thanks to Douglas in Canada for sending this over.

Limited to 2,000 copies, the deluxe edition of ‘In The Music’ is quite stunning.

The packaging is different from the regular release – it comes in a hand stamped paper bag (Led Zeppelin’s ‘In Through The Out Door’ springs to mind.)

A card collector’s box houses the CD and includes a 52 page numbered booklet of photos, lyrics and the names of over 900 loyal fans who have given their support to the band over the years.

As an extra bonus, 250 lucky souls had their copy autographed by the band.

The booklet includes notes from the band explaining how the album developed. Andy Chase explains how he came to produce the album and Emlyn Firth gives a detailed account of the background to the design of the packaging – which adds a real personal touch to the album.

Two extra tracks – ‘I Can’t Stand Tomorrow’ and ‘I Just Don’t Know How’ – are also included, in what has to be the band’s best long player to date.

Get In(to) The Music – you’ll like it.

Here’s the UK release of ‘In The Music’.

It’s pretty much identical to the Japanese release which I’ve previously posted – with the obvious difference being the record label. The poster/lyric fold-out insert is the same.

This 19-track compilation was released as a free CD by HMV in Canada and included artists such as New Order, Frank Black, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and The Trashcans – represented here with ‘Bloodrush’.

TCS appeared on two similar compilations early in 1991 with ‘The Best Man’s Fall’ and ‘Circling The Circumference’ – the latter released on cassette (remember those?)

POPnews is a popular French based webzine that sporadically releases CD compilations which include some truly fantastic tracks.

POPvolume#2 is no exception, with the wonderful Astrid, Lambchop, Orwell and the Trashcans included. John Douglas used to go busking and the track, ‘In Capitals’, which features on this CD, was written about those days.

On the POPnews website the following accompanies the CD review…

“Kilmarnock must be a very very remote city so that the news of Trash Can Sinatras arrives to us also sporadically. It must also be a splendid city if the songs reflect their geographical origins. After 3 albums received by enthusiastic critical greeting but timid public reactions the TCS have returned (finally! shout the despaired fan) and give us (in exclusivity) the fruit in their long studio work. Misty like the plains of Scotland the melody escapes slowly from a crystal guitar. It feels great to hear them again”.

Very deep Monsieur.
