With the support of the Scottish Arts Council, a record number of Scottish bands performed in Austin, Texas at the South-by-Southwest (SxSW) music and film festival in 2004.

The ‘Scottish Invasion’ as it was affectionately known, was an opportunity for a number of the bands including the Trashcans to showcase their talents. Others acts who performed included Biffy Clyro, Idlewild and Hobotalk.

Between March 17-21 the Trashcans made a number of appearances and interviews in support of the upcoming ‘Weightlifting’ album, with their official SxSW showcase gig, taking place at midnight at the Fox and Hound on Friday March 19.

Here’s a promo CD from this time. All tracks are studio recordings.

Small A6 promo postcard for the release of the Trashcans’ controversial short film ‘Spooktime’.

This was released in conjunction with the Coen Brothers’ thriller ‘Blood Simple’ and if you produced the card at one of the band’s gigs, you would get two tickets for the price of one.

The Trashcans are such a generous bunch aren’t they.

Thanks to John Hartley again for posting this through.

From the outside it looks like the regular 7-inch release doesn’t it?

But you’d be wrong.

Slide out the vinyl and you discover that the B-side label is also the A-side label.

I’m not sure if the A-side does in fact play ‘Only Tongue Can Tell’ – the old Dansette disnae work anymore – but I’m sure it does.

A nice wee discovery.

Here’s a promo of ‘In The Music’ issued to various press and radio stations by Manilla PR, who have a host of artists on their roster – most of which I’ve never heard of.

This promo doesn’t have a cover or any promo labels  – just the plain old CD I’m afraid.

…for those sharp dressed men.

Here we have the Trashcans looking very dapper in their suits – Savile Row I imagine – for the video of their cover of Don Black and Mark London’s ‘To Sir, With Love’ – made famous by fellow Scot, Marie Lawrie.

The promo for this single included – as you well know – snippets from the Trashcans very own blockbuster movie ‘Spooktime’ – a fifteen minute alcadelic trip through Glaswegian low-life.
